Day 30: Chana Masala from Vegan Richa's Indian Kitchen
If you’ve been following my posts for the last few months, you may have noticed I like chickpea curry. This is the 3rd variation on chana masala that I have tried this year. The flavor was great but the texture was a little off which I assume was my error. The recipe calls for blending a portion of the chickpeas in the sauce, and I don’t think my food processor got it quite smooth enough. Also, I should have added more liquid. That being said, this is the closest to restaurant style chana masala that I have made. I do think it was less oily which probably contributed to the difference in texture as well, though I’m sure it was a bit healthier because of that.
Vegan Richa’s recipes in general are a bit more involved and time consuming, but they are well worth it! The spice blends are just right and the extra time spent toasting the spices and letting the flavors meld does make a difference in the final product. I wouldn’t usually pick up this cookbook for a weekday meal, but on a weekend night these are perfect!
